Well
here we go again! Hopefully you've got your stuff all together because
it should be any day now that the migratory arrive. I've seen a few
decent residents caught in Waterville/Winslow, one of which could have
been a migrant but I'm not certain of it. They are taking very small
lures at the moment. Small spoons in gold or silver that suggest the
local dace you see near the shoreline. A lot of decent trout and salmon
can be had while we wait, and the alewife on a light fly rod is quite a
hoot as well; they are taking a dark colored nymph in low-light
conditions; A great way to teach kids to fly fish. When/if the Winslow Sabasticook dam is breached,
things are going to change. So far it is scheduled for removal by early
September. When demolition will start is still to be determined.
Look
for ol' line-sides when the water temperature sustains 50 degrees at
this link to 007 .. NOAA
daily lows of 50, not daily spikes. Unless you've got a line on some
residents, in which case 52 in the river should snap on the switch.
Currently the 50 degree wall is slightly north of New Jersey, with
decent fish being reported caught. Click here
for some interesting reports from NJDEP.
~tight
lines and good luck!
2005?
It
started off fairly slow, but turned out to be a decent season.
This year we have a few issues to overcome. new fish
ladder for the alewives; a dam
breaching in Winslow. Just how the stripers will react to these two
issues will play a large role in how and where you catch fish this
year.
This
page is constantly under construction, so make sure that you come by
often and check us out for the latest on the
Upper
Kennebec Stripers.
Tight
lines to all
Thanks,
and come again!
