Greetings fellow anglers, I want to welcome you to the local news section of my web site. I'm going to try to fill you in on the local fishing conditions, hot techniques, times and locations for the Kennebec stripers. Now things are changing at a furious pace since the removal of the Edwards dam in Augusta Maine and I'm doing my best to stay on top of things, so my reports will be kind of on the late side, but anyhow, just recently (Sept.17-26 1999) me and my clients have been catching some HISTORY making stripers in the Waterville Winslow area. Now when I say history, I mean serious history, these fish haven't been in this stretch of the river for over one hundred and fifty years and we're catching some of these fish in the thirty - forty pound class. Don't get me wrong, not a lot of them that size but a lot in the ten to twenty pound class, from 20--40 inches YYYEEEHHHAAAA! I knew the stripers would be up in Waterville some this fall but I never dreamed it would happen so soon and be fish this big.
        I took some folks out Sept. 23 1999 and these guys were a little iffy on the so called tails I was telling them until one guy got a hold of one about twenty-five pounds 36" fishing from shore and nearly took the rod out of his hand and definitely put him into striper shock for the evening. We completely ran out of superlatives, using up "Holy F--k", "Holy F--ken Sh-t", "My F--ken Word" and "Unf--ken Believable" until they seemed old and repetitious...... All I can say now to the folks that thought taking out the dam was a bad idea is, "YOU WERE WRONG", the Edwards dam removal is, and will continue to be, a huge success.
