Greetings Anglers

I want to welcome you to the local news section of my web site. I'm going to try to fill you in on the local fishing conditions, hot techniques, times and locations for the Kennebec stripers. Now things are changing at a furious pace since the removal of the Edwards dam in Augusta in the late summer of 1999. If you’ve been following, you know that the 1999 fall striper fishing at Waterville/Winslow was to say the least, AWESOME. Sudden and early snow in the north that year caused the water to cool nearly 10 degrees in just a few days and the fish left. Normally 55 degrees is well tolerated by stripers and I’ve caught them in water as cold as 49 degrees but a slow decline in temperature is needed and stripers will hang around (as long as there is bait) to just below 50 degrees but when the water temperature dropped from 65 to 55 in a matter of days that simply will not be tolerated when they have a choice between an ocean temperature of 62 and a river temp. of 55 and dropping. It was an easy choice for them to make. The 2000 season was a good one for the local area but I've noticed a decline in numbers of fish. It is hard to determine just how much with 17 more miles of river at their disposal. That being said, I still feel there was a decline. 2001 was a dry year here in Maine, this makes it difficult again to determine whether striper numbers are in decline, but ample bait numbers and less stripers leads me to believe that they are in decline. 2002 we are hoping brings better fishing to the area. So far, it seems there is going to be a dry spring due to the lack of snow most of the winter in the northern regions of the state. If we get our normal spring rains, we should be good to go. see 2002 Season in the photo gallery .

However that was then and this is now; We've had plenty of rain and the “spring stripers” are here!!, time to go!.

Edwards dam removal is and will continue to be a huge success.
